Commify, the company behind a global portfolio of business messaging brands, has today announced the acquisition of Spryng, its first acquisition of 2021.
Spryng, based in Amsterdam, is a leading messaging provider in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and represents a major addition to Commify’s scale in continental Europe, being its first move into the Benelux region, whilst accelerating its existing high growth business in Germany.
Spryng, founded in 2008, is highly complementary to Commify, as a long-standing provider of mission critical messaging to both Enterprise and SME customers. It has deep sector specialism in healthcare, logistics, e-commerce and financial services, and has built a loyal customer base of over 2,000 organisations choosing Spryng for its high-quality cloud platform, best in class support, integrations into key software partners and sector specific information & security accreditations. With compelling customer use cases such as appointment reminders, authentication for patient portals, delivery and collection notifications, it is generating over €10 million annual revenue and growing over 55% per year.
Commify is partnering with the founders and team at Spryng to continue to drive high quality growth in its existing countries, broaden the messaging product set available to its customers to include rich messaging over IP channels, such as Whatsapp and RCS, and to expand its sector specialism across the global Commify footprint, which now extends to eight countries.
“We are delighted to be entering the Dutch and Belgian markets and in particular to be partnering with Marc and Alexander to support Spryng and Commify’s continued growth across our global footprint,” said Richard Hanscott, CEO of Commify. “Commify is operating in an exciting market and this transaction represents a material addition to our business, not least a high-quality customer base that we are excited to offer our multi-channel messaging product set, and of course another team of talented colleagues joining us.”
Marc Rottinghuis, Founder & CEO of Spryng comments: “We grew Spryng into a market-leading player in the Benelux and Germany in healthcare, logistics, e-commerce and financial services. We are excited to join one of the leading messaging providers in Europe. We have known Commify for multiple years and our companies are a great cultural fit, having both built teams that pride themselves on helping our clients make business communications as easy as possible.” Alexander Wanders, Founder & CTO of Spryng added: “By joining forces with Commify, we will be able to bring broader, deeper value to all of our customers through additional channels such as WhatsApp, RCS and Voice. Together, Commify and Spryng have an incredible opportunity to expand Spryng’s sector expertise throughout Europe and Australia.”
Paul Burton, Chief Strategy Officer of Commify added: “We have long admired how Marc and Alexander have built and grown Spryng over many years and are excited to finally partner with them and their team for the next phase of growth in this increasingly global and multi-channel market.”
Spryng was advised by Kempen & Co as exclusive financial advisor and Lexence as legal counsel. Commify was advised by Grant Thornton for financial and tax due diligence, PWC for commercial due diligence, S-RM for cyber security due diligence, Deloitte for tax structuring and Norton Rose Fulbright as legal counsel.
